Pressure Vessel Books are a must read for every engineering student

Before beginning any conversation about Books of Pressure Vessel let us first of all start by discussing what pressure vessel is. Well, if we break it in to two parts then only one meaning is conveyed and that is the amount of pressure applied in a vessel. On the other hand, if we go by the definition of a book then it says “A pressure vessel is a closed container designed to hold gases or liquids at a certain temperature”.

Pressure Vessel finds its usage in industries as well as private sectors. They are mainly used to store gases and liquids at a certain pressure. The history of the pressure vessels can be traced back at a time when industrial revolution took place in Great Britain. The vessels were mainly used in the form of boilers in order to drive steam engines.

Pressure Vessels can be divided in to two types:
  • Pressure Vessel according to the end construction: Here, the pressure vessel may either be closed or opened. Due to the immense pressure of the fluid hoop stresses are attached in open ended vessels where as in case of close ended vessels circumferential stresses are applied. We can call a cylinder with a piston as open end vessel and a tank as close end vessel.
  • Pressure vessels according to dimension: Dimension Vessels can either be thin or thick. The basic difference between thin and thick shells is their dimensions. If the diameter is less than one-tenth of the vessel then it is said to be a thin shell where as in case the diameter is more than one tenth then it is a thick shell.
One can see the use of pressure in steam boilers as well as in chemical plants. It can also be seen in engine cylinders of various automobiles. Sometimes, pressure vessels can fail and can result in disastrous consequences. This is the reason why an inspection of the pressure vessel should be done often. People examining the plant or a pressure vessel inspector must pass the examination of the National Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessel inspectors examination.

Pressure Vessel Books are regularly consulted by engineers, science students and pressure vessel inspectors in order to have a deep knowledge of the subject and apply them on their practical as well as professional lives.
